A relative has a Sony PCG-GRV516G laptop.

This laptop is based on Intel Brookdale i845MZ (which support 1 GB of
memory) and CPU is Intel Pentium 4

When the computer was made (3 year ago), Sony said maximum memory was 512
MB. All other laptop at the same tyme supported 1 GB.

There is 2 DDR sodimm support. Actually both contain 256 MB DDR PC2100
module

Do you known why this laptop cannot support 512 MB module ?
Do you think this is only "paper" limitation and I can try a 512 MB module?

That is an awfully low limit for such a fast processor. Nonetheless,
many machines have historically come 'pre-crippled.' if you already
have a 512mb ddr sodimm, you might as well try. It seems a waste, to
spend money to find out, though.
