Replacement Keyboard - Vaio VGN-TX1XP

Hi, I've heard sony customer service for repairs is pretty awful.

I need to get a replacement UK keyboard for my Sony Vaio vgn-tx1xp.
Does anyone know a reputable dealer where to get this and what it
should cost?

Also are these difficult to fit, i've heard it's just a few screws and
a ribbon cable?

(This e-mail took ages to write, as half the keys are buggered!)

Thx for your help.

As a work-around you can plug a PC kbd into your laptop so you can get
your work done until it's fixed.

Google can find you dealers that specialize in sony parts. Some of
them provide advise on how to install the part. I once replaced a
disk on a sony laptop. The people I chose to buy the disk from
provided a leaflet that showed how to open the case, which was
impossible until I was shown how.

A week ago i had to get the disk out of an IBM laptop, one I'd never
worked on. Googling for how-to info found an IBM manual that wasn/t
helping me with the tricky move. More googling found an IBM web site
with a 15 second movie that showed me the right moves. Great.

Re: Replacement Keyboard - Vaio VGN-TX1XP

Thanks for your points.

I should mention i had alook on e-bay but most keyboards seem to be for
US models not uk, which is no good for me.

Moreover my vaio is like a bloody ipod with no visible means to gain
entry. Which is good to look at but not much help when you want to pop
the bonnet (hood) and do some maintenance.

If there is a place that can source and fit the keyboard in the UK that
would the ideal soltion.

$50USD. I dunno how much in UK.

Yep. The trick is finding the right screws. :) If you had a dell, or an
IBM i could point you straight to the service manual. But finding one
for a sony is hit and miss. At any rate, finding a free one is.

Half the keys.... You might try just reseating the ribbon.
