I am in the process of reloading this model with XP Pro. I have all the
drivers I need except the above mentioned TVALD or ACPI common modules
which are necessary for the other Toshiba utilities. There is no
mention of this driver except in the info for the Toshiba console; it
says it is required, but there is no driver download available. Does
anyone know if this TVALD is necessary? If so, why is it not listed in
the driver downloads? Also, is there another version that is compatible
with this model that I can download?

I have not done anything with any of the "M35's", but on all of the
models that I have looked up, the ACPI module was listed as a download
on the Toshiba web site. And these are often the same, e.g. model
independent, although it might be dangerous to simply assume that (I
only say it because after the fact I find that I've downloaded the same
files for different models).

That has been my experience too, but for this model, I cannot find that
file! Any idea what I can use as a replacement? Any model close to the
M35X? I am not very familiar with the newer Toshiba models.
BTW, did that LCD panel I sent you get there in one piece?

Ken,

The ACPI common module is listed for M35-S4561. I can't be certain that
it would be the same for your M35X-s149, but I think it's likely. I'd
create a restore point with System Restore, then try it.

The panel did arrive in one piece but I don't have access to a laptop
that can power it up.

M35X = Compal
M35 = Inventec or Quanta

The module in question ***may*** still be the same. It's a software
interface module between Windows and the BIOS. It is very common (e.g.
same file) across many (but not necessarily all) of the Toshiba laptops.

But it's good to know the difference between the M35X and the M35.

Thanks for the info on the models and who makes them. Do you have any
idea which tvald file to use for my specific model? This is the info
