| ThinkPad X31 "no infrared adapter installed" IBM ThinkPad X31with Windows Xp sp2 Windows say it is working, as "Ibm Thinkpad Fast" IRDA port, on Intel(R) 82801DBM LPC Interface Controlle, on 02F8-02FF IRQ3 DMA3 no conflicts, 17/03/2001 driver (irenum.sys and nscirda.sys files in System32\DRIVERS) Set Transceiver A and B to Vishay. But I can't get the IRDA port to work. The Nokia PC Suite (Connection Settings) says it can't find the IRDA port. Trying to install IrComm2k, it says: "no infrared adapter installed" |

| Re: ThinkPad X31 "no infrared adapter installed" What are you trying to send the IR signal too ? About the only thing I've seen it work is with printing. | Re: ThinkPad X31 "no infrared adapter installed" It's not going to work. The drivers will only work with printers. That's unless Microsoft lied. :) Enrico C wrote: > On Sat, 06 Jan 2007 01:56:21 GMT, Kevin Weaver wrote: > >> What are you trying to send the IR signal too ? > > A Nokia 6230i phone. > > |

I don't know why it isn't working in the OP's case, but IR is / was a very common way of connecting a mobile phone to a laptop - pretty much everyone in my last office used their mobile phones with their laptops in this way (all IBM Thinkpads and Nokia mobiles). Granted these days Bluetooth has taken over. We also used it for copying files from one laptop to another. To the OP, it should work straight out of the box - you might want to try uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers, make sure you have the latest version of the Nokia Suite, and that all the relevant components of the Nokia suite are installed (Dependant on version, there may be several components that have to be downloaded separately from Nokia and installed *in the correct sequence* - it is not the most user friendly software). I'd also check for the latest drivers from IBM (Lenovo?) and that everything is enabled correctly with no conflicts at BIOS level - we had some strange issues with a programming package that had to have the laptop serial port enabled in the BIOS - when it was disabled, every other piece of serial comms software we tried worked fine, Windows reported everything was fine with the port, but this one piece of software couldn't find the port. Enabled it in BIOS and off it went. As a quick test, with Nokia software not installed / not running (and not in the system tray) you should be able to setup Windows to give you an IR status indicator in the system tray. If you turn on IR on your mobile and wave it in front of the IR port, does it register (audible / visual indication?). How about with a second laptop with IR (if you can get hold of one)?
