Dell Latitude CPiR DVD/CD-RW drive-need to install drivers?

Hi all,
I just got a new drive for my Dell Latitude CPi. It is:
24X CD-RW/DVD module, from Dell.
Before this upgrade, I was running a Dell 24X CD-ROM module.

I would like to know exactly what drivers/devices I will need.
Currently, the drive runs software and music CDs fine, but will not run
DVDs or give me the option to burn CDs. I found the DVD adapter
download on Dell support, and I think I also need the Margi DVD-to-Go
PC card.
What else will I need, or should I be aware of?
(I am looking at CD-RW, DVD-ROM capabilities)

Thanks,
Chloe H.

My cpi runs DVD just fine.

What does this mean? Can you read a DVD full of data? If not, it's broke.

or give me the option to burn CDs.

You need software to burn anything. You need software to PLAY a MOVIE DVD.
This should have come with your drive???
If not, Nero works for burning.
Depending on the processor speed of your CPi, you may need to run the
most efficient DVD player you can find.
My cipA 400 will ALMOST play a Movie DVD with PowerDVD, but it skips.
It will BARELY play a Movie DVD with WinDVD if I do NOTHING else.
There are lots of alternatives.

Re: Dell Latitude CPiR DVD/CD-RW drive-need to install drivers?

I think my processor speed is 366 MHz. (PII)

If I pop in a DVD, I can go to My Computer/D:/ and see the movie files
as data, but I can't play them. Software and music CDs work fine, I
assume this is because that's the only thing the computer thinks it
should be able to do with D:/ .
Sorry, it was late and I was tired. I didn't purchase the drive
directly from Dell, but got it brand new and sealed off of eBay. It did
not come with any software. I put PowerDVD onto my machine. When I
insert a DVD, the program comes up automatically, but it will not play.
Thanks for the info on the rewriting program.
Thanks,
Chloe H.

Well, PowerDVD should play a DVD on a 366MHz cpiA.
But you'll probably be unhappy with the jerky motion and skipping.

Anything you buy off Ebay is risky. Newinthebox...yeah right!
But if it can see the directory on the DVD, it likely works.

I'd mess around with the settings in the dvd play software.
I don't know if there are minimum memory requirements.
I don't recall any drivers needed, but it's been a long time.
I gave away my dell DVD drive, so can't try it.
