| IBM laptop woes. Any troubleshooting ideas? This is an IBM T43. When trying to boot it up, one of 2 things happens: 1.) It stops on a bluescreen with a physical memory dump, and each time it's a new, different cyprtic message. Here are just 3: BAD_POOL_HEADER IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA ...and many more, some mentioned "hardware error". 2.) It loads the F8 screen asking if you want to boot safe mode, last known good config, etc, and no matter what you pick it goes black for a few seconds and then reboots itself. I've heard when you get different, crazy BSODs like this, it's usually bad memory. So it's under warrenty still, and we had IBM come out and replace the entire motherboard, and it's STILL doing it. We also have another T43 here that's working just fine. If we swap the hard drives, the problem laptop still has the same problems, so it's not the hard drive. But just for giggles, we reimaged the HDD anyway, but it didn't help. If they replaced the MB, what else could it be? TIA |

If IBM service came out and replaced the MB, didn't the tech start the system to see whether it worked or not? -- James Visit the Thinkpad Forums http://forum.thinkpads.com |

And they don't put the memory on the motherboard anymore (well not often anyway). But they use common slots so you can replace or add memory to the machine. Usually this is from the bottom of the laptop. -- Bill |

| Re: IBM laptop woes. Any troubleshooting ideas? If it is under warranty pick up the phone and stop wasting time here. Guessing won't fix it, replacing parts will.....
