| Recommendations for a mouse? I just bought a low-end laptop - a Toshiba L35-S2171. this is my first laptop, and it's pretty clear that the touchpad isn't gonna work for me. So I think I need a USB mouse of some kind. Does anyone have a strong preference for a particular mouse to use with a laptop? |

| Re: Recommendations for a mouse? Take a look at www.ebuyer.co.uk They sell optical mice very cheap. I usually just look for one with a lot of good reviews. woodglass... | Re: Recommendations for a mouse? Depends on how you intend to use the laptop. If it will be mostly in a fixed location, as a desktop replacement, I'd go with a wired USB optical mouse. If you will be more mobile, consider a wireless mouse. Logitech and M$ both make models where the reciever will store in the mouse, turning it off at the same time (saves battery life). As to particular model - head down to the stores and see what feels right to you. What's comfortable for one person may not suit another. Check button placement and pressure, mouse shape, style. Which mouse "feels good" is a VERY subjective thing! Notan |

| Re: Recommendations for a mouse? I'd get a wireless optical mouse. If it will be used stationary (e.g. as a compact desktop), just get a desktop mouse. If it will be used while traveling, get a laptop mouse. These are smaller, and store the USB mouse receiver in the base of the mouse while traveling. Although battery life on cordless mice is now very long (both MS and Logitech are claiming more than 6 months on their latest models), carry a spare battery (or set of batteries) with you in the laptop case. [Regardless of what type of pointer it is, the internal pointers in laptops are never as good as a real mouse. But it's difficult to use a real mouse if you are not at a table or desk.] Peabody wrote: > I just bought a low-end laptop - a Toshiba L35-S2171. this is my > first laptop, and it's pretty clear that the touchpad isn't gonna > work for me. Although the mouse is one of the worst devices to use for your wrist and forearm. As your hand is twisted flat while the better position is with the thumbs up like grabbing a flag pole. They make these mice, they are called vertical mice. But they are rare. I also thought a large trackball was very nice too. The kind that uses a billiard ball. Which you can give it a quick spin and it spins quickly for many seconds. Small trackballs are just not the same. Here are some other odd pointing devices that many people don't know about: http://www.indiana.edu/~iuadapts/tec...ice/index.html I do have some ideas of designing a better pointing device though. They use the feet. They make pointing devices which uses the feet, but nothing like what I am thinking of. <grin> -- Bill |
