| Game lag on new high-spec notebook (Acer Ferrari 5005WLMi) Hi, I have just recently purchased an Acer Ferrari 5005WLMi notebook. The spec being: * a 2.0GHz AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-60 dual-core processor * 2GB of fast 667MHz RAM * an ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 graphics card with 512MB dedicated memory * and a large, 160GB hard drive spinning at 5,400rpm When I play a game (Pro Evolution Soccer 6), the first game I play lags like hell. This happens for most of the first 10 minutes of playing. The lag decreases the longer I play (i.e. it is really bad during the first minute, but is almost gone after 10 minutes, but still there slightly). The notebook should be able to play this game without any lag. I play at 1024 x 768 as well in case the 1680x1050 resolution is a problem, but I still have the same problem. I play the game from CD (but most of the game is copied onto my HDD anyway, so this can't be the cause of the lag). It seems like a caching issue. Can anyone suggest what I should do to eliminate the lag? My brother has an Acer Ferrari 4005 which runs the same game smoothly. Could it be that the graphics drivers need updating? Can I change any other settings to remove the lag? The notebook has ATI Control Center software, and different profiles (i.e. Entertainment, Word Processing, etc) but I am scared to change the settings in case I screw the notebook up. Like I say, this machine should be able to play this game smoothly (especially if my brother's less powerful graphics card - Mobility Radeon X700 - can play this without any problems). Thanks. | Re: Game lag on new high-spec notebook (Acer Ferrari 5005WLMi) Get the newest drivers available, as well as find out if any game patches exist. It sounds like a software issue <jimmyfishbean******.co.uk> wrote in message news:1166112496.639903.282210@79g2000cws.googlegro ups.com... > Hi, > > I have just recently purchased an Acer Ferrari 5005WLMi notebook. New notebooks usually have many apps and interfaces that do not contribute anything to use. Stop automatic startup in the applications themselves, or use the run command, type: msconfig and select the startup tab; uncheck anything you don't need. Go into Device Manager and make certain that you have the correct display driver, correct monitor, etc. Then do a disk cleanup, followed by a defrag - the XP defrag will do well enough. Go to ACER support, download and install all driver updates; BIOS updates are also important in a new notebook. Q |
