Matte or Anti- Glare Availability

I've seen a few posts here on laptop screens, and some thought that less
reflective screens may be better for certain applications, depending on
lighting. I'm thinking in particular of frequent business travel, and what
laptop brands/models may be available that have matte or anti-reflective
screens available, if any. I've looked at Best Buy and Sam's Club, and the
folks at Best Buy informed me that's how they all are now. And, for that
matter, that the brighter, more reflective screens are more durable and
easier to clean.

Personally, I'm a bit sensitive to glare, being a nearsighted glasses
wearer.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks,

John

Check out Dell's Latitude line, available through their Small Business
Division, or higher.

Stay away from "TrueBrite" LCDs... They're the highly reflective ones.

Re: Matte or Anti- Glare Availability

Some Dell models still have an option for a matte-finish screen.
However, it seems to be disappearing there as well.

Re: Matte or Anti- Glare Availability

Dell's website doesn't say anything about it, so I called sales support for
small business. They weren't certain if a matte screen option was available,
and said my best bet (to be sure) would be to call back during business
hours when they could let me know either way.

I'll let you know what I find out.

There is no "matte screen option."

Any screen that *ISN'T* a "TrueLife" (sorry, I previously said "TrueBrite")
screen, should be a matte (i.e., not highly reflective) finish.

John,

What salespeople told you at Bestbuy and Sam's Club is BS. The only real
difference is that they are **** unpleasant to look at.

Although I personally do not recommend Lenovo, you might want to look
there for machines which actually are Thinkpads.

And if you can, fight back and buy a compact desktop with a flat-screen
display.

Regards

Re: Matte or Anti- Glare Availability

If you did the configuration on the E1505 (which is also the 6400), you
had a choice of 4 screens. 3 of them had "TruBrite", one didn't. That
one was the matte screen. However, I was configuring a 6400 just
yesterday and that choice was gone. Only the trubrite choices were
available.

Re: Matte or Anti- Glare Availability

Right. And the non TrueLife (I also said "TruBrite" earlier) choice was
not present yesterday on the 6400 configuration page. But I just
checked and it's still showing on the E1505.

Dell's Inspiron line is being advertised as multimedia machine... Somewhere
along the line, many (most? all?) manufacturers got the idea that it was
mandatory for a multimedia machine to have a glossy screen.

I don't think *any* of Dell's business machines (Latitudes, Workstations, etc.)
have TrueLife screens.

Re: Matte or Anti- Glare Availability

Wrong. I was looking at the configuration page for an Insprion 6400
from Dell small business last night, and all 3 of the choices had the
shiny screen (TrueLife, or whatever).

You misunderstood me...

I didn't say "from the Small Business Division," I said "Dell's business machines
(Latitudes, Workstations, etc.)"

Their "business machines" do NOT include the Inspiron line.

My T60p isn't glossy, can't speak for other Lenovo models.
