Hard drive adapter needed

I'm not sure what the part is called, but it's the part that fits onto the
laptop hard drive pins to adapt the hard drive to the motherboard. I know
they come in many different designs, and I suspect they are in large part
proprietary. I desperately need one for an Averatec 5110P.

Can someone suggest a source? Averatec has not been of help to this point.

Thank you,

jm

They are proprietary, unfortunately.

Haha, you amaze me (not!). Averatec is an unmitigated pack of
charlatans and wankers of the first water.

Unfortunately your best bets are:
1. Look on eBay for the part or a parts machine
2. Find out what other brands are the same machine as this particular
model. Averatec is a shell company that doesn't make anything; their
machines are OEMed from Twinhead.
3. Ask on averatecforums.com

Ummm... not usually. The *vast* majority of 2.5" hard drives use the same
connector, and even with 1.8" hard drives most will be one of 2.

Is it a 2.5" hard drive? If so:

You didn't read the original posting, quoted above for your
convenience.

The OP is asking for the cable/adapter that adapts the standard HDD
connector to a proprietary interface on the laptop. Sometimes this is a
semi-standard pins-to-2mm-pitch-edge-connector adapter, most often it
is a FFC that is completely proprietary.

Re: Hard drive adapter needed

Normally, the item that you want is part of a "caddy" for the hard
drive, although technically you might find one without the rest of the
caddy parts.

VERY proprietary, and you chances of finding one are slim, but E-Bay is
the best source if you can't get one from Averatec.

Re: "Averatec is a shell company that doesn't make anything; their

That fact, in and of itself, is potentially of enormous help to the
person who needs the part.

Re: Hard drive adapter needed

He's dealing with the interface between the drive and the motherboard.
While some motherboards accept the drive connector (which as you
correctly note is standard) directly, many do not and use a short
interface adapter between the drive and the motherboard. That is his
situation, and that's what he's looking for (and it's part of the drive
caddy).

Ah, I'm sorry, I was thinking of the wrong thing. I did read the original
post, but clearly not closely enough.
