Re: please help me,a strange DVD writer problem

I congratulate you on providing much information.

I can tell you that the LG super multi drives should work perfectly using a
USB to SCSI adapter cable and in fact, this is how I communicate with a DVD
burner on my laptop (I even use almost the same model LG drive as you).

However, my suspicions lie with the Nero package that you use. I have
encountered odd compatibility issues before with this. Was your Nero by any
chance, already installed on your laptop for use with the inbuilt optical
drive. If so, then it is most likely crippled (nearly all OEM copies of
Nero are) to provide limited functionality with any drive other than the one
it is bundled with.

My first suggestion is to install whatever burning software you have on that
desktop, on your laptop and try that.

One clue is the Winaspi32 error. This is generated by the Nero ASPI
interface getting the wrong or no information back from the Windows XP ASPI
layer. This isn't too surprising because Windows XP doesn't use ASPI layers
out of the box. But it can be forced to. Download the latest ASPI drivers
from

ftp://ftp.adaptec.com/software_pc/aspi/aspi_v472.exe

or

http://download.adaptec.com/software.../aspi_v472.exe

If you want to dive further under the hood and understand some of the above,
there is some information at

http://web.ncf.ca/aa571/aspi.htm

Have you tried using the LG drive on your laptop with a DVD-RAM disk? This
will work with windows XP without any further drivers or burning software
(but beware of preformatted disks that are formatted for video because XP
can't reformat them). This may provide a clue as to whether it really is
the USB/IDE interface or Nero.

You appear to be posting in HTML which I have been unable to disable in this
response. Posting in plain text takes up less room on the servers.

HTH

OK. Next test: what happens if you connect the burner through the USB/IDE
adaptor to your desktop? Will it burn DVDs in that configuration.

Also, is your laptop USB1 or USB2?
