Hello,
I have a 2 year old compaq presario v2000. One morning I switched
it on, it never came up.
Meaning, I saw nothing on the screen.

The power light is on, battery is charging, the hard disking is working
- atleast the indicator lights are telling me so. The fan is working,
however I see nothing on the screen.

(Infact, I had been seeing this problem often recently and I used to
switch-off/switch-on a couple of times everyday in the morning. I
should have lsitened to the signs. Now, it never comes up)

I connected an external monitor to it but I still saw nothing on the
screen.

I went to the nearest authorised HP dealer and he says, there is some
problem with the motherboard. (He says, he put the processor in another
machine. He put the RAM in another machine and they both work. So, he
figured the motherboard is at fault)

He also says, in my country he is not authorised to repair in the chip
level and he will replace the whole mother board.

Should I really replace the whole motherboard?. I am prepare it open it
myself or go to some small time laptop dealer who can fix it for me.
What do you think you would do?. Any suggestions for what the problem
might be.

you saved the money on the extended warranty. If it is the motherboard, the
fix will cost 300 dollars or more. So take the 300 plus and the extended
warranty money you saved, get a new machine. It will come with at least a 1
year warranty on the whole thing.
