A question about an LG USB Drive

I purchased a LG 1 GIG USB drive from Sams Club. There wasn't any
information inside the pakage explaining how to use it. I went to their
website and tried to download a brochure but it wouldn't accept any of
the input regarding model #. Does anyone have this brochureon PDF they
could e-mail me? I sure would appreciate it. I need if for my class
Thursday night. I already e-mailed LG about this but i thought i might
get a faster respnse from someone in this newsgroup. Many thanks!

Re: A question about an LG USB Drive

What kind of drive is it? Hard drive, flash drive, etc.?

If it's a flash drive, and if the computer has Windows XP, normally you
just plug it in, a new drive appears in "My Computer" and you can drag
and drop files to it.

Re: A question about an LG USB Drive

It's a flash drive. After posting on this forum, i played around with
it and figured out how to use it. Thanks. Still strange there weren't
any instructions with the drive.

Re: A question about an LG USB Drive

The only thing that is not obvious about using a flash drive is this:
When you plug in such a device (and not only flash drives but quite a
few other devices), a new icon will appear in the system tray (lower
right by the clock) called "Safely remove devices". [The actual icon,
usually too small to be recognizable, is a PC Card with a left pointing
green arrow.]

The correct procedure to remove the device is to click on "Safely remove
devices", select the device to be removed (there may be quite a few
devices listed ... all "removeable" devices will be listed) and click on
it and select "stop (or safely remove) {device}" (not the exact
wording). You will then be told either that you can safely remove the
device or, sometimes, that you cannot.

If you remove such a device without doing this first, or when the
response is that the device cannot be safely removed at this time, then
you risk data loss on the device. That doesn't mean that such loss will
necessarily occur, but it's a possibility.
