Help needed - Armada 1700, BIOS & usb hdd

Hello :) I was here one day ago :) Now I have different q: I've updated
bios on my 6300/T/5000/D/M/1 with the newest on from Compaq's site -
version 686EM_99.1130 A (25 Jan 00), as seen here
http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/fi...load/7919.html.
But (and there's almost always a "but" of some sort ;) ) I (again) have
a problem. Since I've updated, I often get BSoD, and the most often
after I plug in my usb hdd. He worked before on that machine; I now
reinstalled windows (btw there's win xp sp2 on it) but the blue screen
still pops out.. Since I did change the CD-ROM the other day I pulled
him out, to eliminate the option that it is his fault. But it isn't. I
looked in bios (from diskette) but everything seemed fine. Any ideas?

Ty..

I suspect that either (1) the USB HD has not enough power from USB ports
and must be separately powered; or, (2) the USB host controllers are
corrupted. (1) is easy to check: apply the correct voltage to the drive
from a DC power supply with the correct center pin polarity (+/-). (2)
might be corrected by removing the USB Root Hubs first, and the USB Host
Controllers next, in that order, and rebooting to reinstall the drivers.

If neither of these work, contact vendor's web support for your notebook
and see if there is a BIOS update and applicable drivers that you have
not installed.

Has this PC worked fine up to now on XP ? Or is installing XP the reason
for your updating ?

On your link above , scroll down:
" Notes
SUPPORTED OPERATING SYSTEMS: IBM OS/2, Microsoft Windows 3.x and MS-DOS,
Microsoft Windows 95, Microsoft Windows 98, Microsoft Windows 2000,
Microsoft Windows NT Workstation 3.5, Microsoft Windows NT Workstation
4.0 "

Notice - No XP support. Perhaps that's why it doesn't work ?? USB driver
issues ??

Hi, thank you for your help. Sorry for not anwsering for so long. Well,
the same disk worked in the same laptop, in the same drawer, with same
windows :( I also tried to remove/reinstall the drivers, with no help..
he does actually show him in system tab, under "Unknown usb device...".
I've flashed the lap with newest bios version..

Ty,

M.S.

The lap worked ok with win xp sp2. Then I flashed the bios and
reinstalled the windows. I'll try to reinstall once more, prehaps
windows didn't install well.. it can happen... Flashing of bios doesn't
deppend on what kind of os you have, and since the disk did work before
on that lap, he should also work now.. the flashing went well.. And
usually, if you don't have winxp drivers, you can use those of win nt,
it works... More ideas? BTW thank you all for your help..
