need help with search feature

I have an HP Pavilion with XP home edition;
when I am in
C:\Documents and Settings\me\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files
I see all my temp files, including xxxx.jpg, xxxx.swf etc, so I hit F3
and I am in my search box now.
I have a checkmark on;
search system folders,
search hidden files and
search subfolders
the problem is, I put *.jpg in the "all or part of filename", and no
files show up in the search, how can this be?
Thanks much!
R. Hamm

Because you don't have a jpg file by the name of "*". Just put in .jpg
and they will all show.

Well, .jpg works, but now also *.jpg works!
I have a column to display size, the header is there but it does not
show the file sizes, this this is quirky!
Thanks,

*** What happens with other searches such as "*.txt" ?

*** That should not be it. The asterisk and question mark are legitimate
wildcard characters.
