For the untrained, i.e. you, DON'T USE IT!!! Try one of the many available microfiber cloths, and either plain water or a commercial LCD cleaning fluid. Notan |

| Re: cleaning streaks from lcd screen....??? Use Windex on a Kleenex (not a paper towel ... too rough). Windex is strong and should not be used often ... frequent use can cause some yellowing of the LCD display front layer, which is plastic. However, for infrequent, occasional use, it's ok and works well. For more frequent use, use the eyeglass cleaner sold in the optical departments of Sears, Wal-Mart, Sam's Club, etc. hizark21******.com wrote: > What is the best way to clean streaks from the lcd screen....??? Best material is a mixture of pharmaceutical grade isopropyl alcohol and deionised water* (1 part alcohol to 4 parts water). This should remove most streaks. It will leave behind slight smearing which can usually be removed with a *soft* lint free cloth and some gentle elbow grease. *Sold as optical cleaner from opticians - but beware some of these contain other ingredients or impurities which can take some shifting. |

| Re: cleaning streaks from lcd screen....??? It may leave dust, but you can blow that off. It won't leave broken tissue unless you get aggressive around the edges. Really, the point was that the paper or cloth has to be EXTREMELY soft. Paper towels are far too rough. Very soft cotton cloth would work also. The outer layer of an LCD is soft plastic (Mylar?) and will easily scratch or show "swirl marks". | Re: cleaning streaks from lcd screen....??? hizark21******.com wrote: > What is the best way to clean streaks from the lcd screen....??? They > are not scratches, but it's very hard to clean them. *** I use Armorall with a very clean, soft flannel cloth. Rub *gently* from side to side. Do not put pressure on LCD screens! Armorall will clean to some extent, but its virtue is that it polishes and reduces minor scratches to bring a nice luster to the surface. It can even increase contrast on older screens that have grown chalky. If the screen actually needs to be cleaned, do not use ammonia cleaners. They can damage the screen coating. I use a 25% solution of methanol to distilled water. Methanol has an excellent RAE (residue after evaporation) of around 6 ppm for laboratory grade. I use industrial grade which is considerably cheaper but still has a low RAE. It wholesales here in Nova Scotia for $6.00 per litre when bought as a four-litre jug. Try chemical cleaning places in your area for both products. Richard Bonner http://www.chebucto.ca/~ak621/DOS/ |
