Why?

It is already a very "slow" processor.

My Celeron M 1.5GHZ is also too fast! As 80% of the time it is doing
nothing (even with the webcam running). Kind of overkill, don't you
think?

What would you accomplish by slowing it down?

Use less power and generate less heat, not that it generates a lot now.
But it would only get better. :D

Slow? Man this is core sole without speedstep
so it's very very fast. Only one problem always on high FSB this cause
heat and noise, when you only write something or watching web you don't
need power. I was wondering maybe someone have it on board and know how
to low FSB

Re: anyone try to slow down celeron m

All modern versions of Windows (since Windows 98SE) execute a "Halt"
instruction when the processor and operating system are doing nothing
and are in an idle state.

Oh very nice! It still would be nice to slow it down some though.

Re: anyone try to slow down celeron m

You can't slow it down beyond "stopped".

you mean throttling ... it gives altmost nothing at all ;(

when system are doing nothing celeron work still full speed like 1,6GHz,
normal pentium m or core duo slowing down to for instane 1GHz

ok I read some notes and give up, no way to slow down celerons m on demand

No I mean slow it down when it is running. Far too much computing power
in a Celeron M 1.5GHZ for my tastes. It is sitting here at 8% usage for
about an hour now.

Re: anyone try to slow down celeron m

No, I don't mean throttling.

I mean that the Windows idle loop in all versions of Windows since 98SE
is a halt instruction ... the processor STOPS (until an interrupt
occurs). In previous versions of Windows it was a loop.

There used to be "CPU Cooling programs" (one was called "Rain") that
modified Windows by replacing the loop with a halt instruction (and the
temperature of the CPU dropped sometimes dramatically -- 10 degrees C or
more. With 98SE those programs became unnecessary.

But to the point of the original poster, so is slowing down the
processor not necessary to save power/heat WHEN THE COMPUTER IS IDLE.
Now if you want to save heat and power when it's running ... when you
are actually using it ... that's another matter. That's what speedstep
does ... slows down the process not when it's idle, but rather when it's
running on battery, but it really is slowing down the CPU when you are
using it. You may, therefore, notice the difference (depending on what
you are doing). But the battery will last longer.

*** If you are trying to run older programs that give run-time errors,
then use Mo'Slo or SLOWDOWN.
