| Anyone own a Fujitsu Siemens AMILO L7320 - WiFi question? A friend has bought a Fujitsu Siemens AMILO L7320 laptop as a Christmas present, but asked me to check it out and get it connected to his wireless home network. The laptop appears to be a reasonable basic spec, and all works well with the exception of the WiFi card. The first issue is that the AMILO L7320 would not connect to his network using WPA. I had two other laptops and a desktop all connected via WPA by the AMILO L7320 would not connect. When the security was dropped back to WEP 128bit, it connects OK. Fujitsu Siemens support tell me it is fitted with an Intel pro 3945abg WLAN card, and Intel's site says this is WPA supported. FS support could not confirm if the card supported WPA! But the more irritating issue to me is that when the laptop is re-booted, the WiFi card has to be manually started using the "Fn" and "2" keys! I have never come across a laptop that does not retain the WiFi state, i.e. if WiFi is left on, then it is one when the laptop re-boots. Furthermore, once WiFi is turned on, it takes 20 plus seconds to connect to the network. Even my Parents cheapo Packard Bell finds the wireless network within a few seconds. FS support suggest that this is a "feature" of this laptop, and that WiFi must be re-enabled after every reboot. More worryingly, they say that this laptop is so new they do not have second tier support set up for it yet!!! So does anyone have this laptop? Does the WiFi have to be manually turned on after every re-boot, or am I getting duff info from FS support? Thanks for any help offered. DeeBee |

Are you using Wireless Zero Configuration or the Intel interface? I would disable the intel interface and use WZC only. Do you perhaps have the router set to filter MAC addresses? Note that this is an ABG wireless card and should be set to the protocol of your existing router, typically 802.11G or 802.11B in the card properties in Device Manager. Also, look for the checkbox "let the computer turn off this device to save power..." and uncheck it. Q |

Ah, thats the bit I did not know. Just checked my folks Packard Bell and yes there are loads of settings. Maybe I just need to a bit of configuration... The DHCP client list will show if the router thinks it is connected to the subject computer. The settings for MAC address filtering will show if it is set to filter. Q |

Found this in a FSC forum, posted 16th Nov http://download.fujitsu-siemens.com/...4e400a05d96adb bottom line is "This computer does not have the option to start the wirelss conection automatically. I have spoken to helpdesk about this, also a data nerd friend of mine tried to do it, but there is no options for it. The only thing we can hope for is an bios uppgrade he told me." Ah well I will not worry to much about the WPA, the WiFi card is cr@p to start with. Not sure if I put an Intel card in it, I will get the full functionality if the BIOS will not support it. Thanks for the help and ideas anyway |

| Re: Anyone own a Fujitsu Siemens AMILO L7320 - WiFi question? Hi I have the AMILO L7320. It took a while to activate WIFI until I read your post confirming the use of the hotkey Fn2. You are right, you do need to re-activate wifi every time you re-start windows but not if you hibernate and resume. It does sound a little odd not to start up in the same state you switched off. It does take a while to find the network if you leave it upto it's own devices, I normally click the refresh option to connect quickly. I think I saw in the stup tht you can change how often it does an automatic refresh. MArky Mark |
