| in trouble: Kensington laptop lock: lost key Hello, At work we have a security policy whereby we have to lock our laptop with a Kensington lock to the desk. There is a small hole on the side of the laptop where such a lock can be fit in. However I lost the key and I am too embarrassed to bring it up. Now we need to bring our laptops to a training session and I am not sure what to do. Does anyone know whether it is possible to get a master key for Kensington locks so that I may unlock it? Can anyone suggest a solution? Thanks, JG |

It's under the plastic sleve on the key. If you have the serial number you can order replacement keys. -- a d y k e s @ p a n i x . c o m Harrison for Congress in NY 13CD www.harrison06.com Don't blame me. I voted for Gore. | Re: in trouble: Kensington laptop lock: lost key I'm sure that there are no master keys. First part of the solution: Fess Up. If the company supplied the locks, they may have kept the 2nd (spare) key that they come with. If not, you may be screwed. But you have to fess up. If you supplied this yourself, the locks can be registered when they are new (send in a card that they come with) so that you can get a spare key. If none of the above help, call a locksmith. jackgoche@googlemail.com wrote: > Hello, > > At work we have a security policy whereby we have to lock > our laptop with a Kensington lock > to the desk. We had another brand at work that were combination, and had a lever you could move and then change the combination. It kept on changing itself and I had to keep on picking them. Never failed. Also of about a dozen four had the cable part pull out of the lock. All went back to the supplier. As a result, a number of manufacturers are replacing tubular locks with more robust designs. Notan |
