Acer Aspire 1800

My father gave me a Acer Aspire 1800, a couple of days ago because of
the fact that the screen doesn't power on, when you push the power
button, while evrything else turns on.

If you turn the power on and no acer symbol comes on, hold down the
power button until it turns
off then hit the power button again, keep repeating this procedure
until the acer symbol comes
on it will work. Some times it take 20 tries sometimes it take 2 times.

I was wondering if anyone has had this same problem and what they had
to do to fix it. When you power the machine on all of the fans start
up, and the lights flash, but the screen won't power on; I have been
looking on the net for someone who has had the same problem and have
found nothing useful. Any help will be nice.

Thanks,
Jimmie Barnett

Sounds kind of like a bad lamp or inverter. Does it work with an
external monitor every time?

Nah it doesn't work with an external. haven't tried an external when
the actual screen works, but i am going to assume it would work.

thanks,
Jimmie

Oh that doesn't sound good. Forget the inverter and the lamp idea then.
Sounds more like the video card might be bad. Most laptops this is part
of the motherboard. Something to check though is the CMOS battery. Very
doubtful though. Does the clock run fast? Weak CMOS batteries will run
the clock fast.

I read a review on this laptop and a guy bought 3 of these laptops;
within a year he had to replace all 3 of them with new mother boards. I
am going to assume that its the mother board. I'll check the CMOS
battery though next time I reboot the computer; right now iv'e finally
got the laptop up and running. What about a over heating problem? When
I start the laptop it sounds like the fans are having a hard time
kicking on.

Thanks
Jimmie

Yes it is very possible indeed. But usually an overheating problem
doesn't happen right away. But no always.

Re: Acer Aspire 1800

I bought my Acer Aspire 1804 in januari 2006.
I did pay a lot for this 'ultimate' machine.
However, from the beginning I noticed that all the fans start up when
you power on the machine.
It seems that there are tree fans and two will start up after you power
up. The third fan will start up while processing a simple thing as
opening some foto's.
It's most irritating.
I have an Acer Travel Mate, could be 6 years old. This one is so very
quiet, you would not know it's on.
I brought my Acer 1804 back to the fabric.Got it back with the
notification that the fans had been cleened! I used this machine from
March till half Octoberin a clean environment!
It seems that this is a 1804-problem which can't be fixed.
This should be a powerfull laptop, but it takes a lot of time to open a
simple foto-album.
Opening the Internet also takes a lot of time. In the beginning I
'clicked' two or three times, not knowing that the machine was allready
bussy, now opening three times the internet!
On the internet I found a German message telling the same problem. He
offered his laptop for 'a reasonable price'.
I shall take my losses and, as well, I will sell this 'ultimate
irritating machine'.
