| Win98 - black screen install Hi I have installed Win98 on laptop one week ago and everything was OK but know when I'm installing it then I see first installation screen and press key enter then I see only a black screen and nothing is change. Cd-rom don't read anything. Disk is clean because I formatted disk by format. |

Is this a retail version of Windows install or an OEM one with all of the wrong drivers on your computer? -- Bill |

Laptop read Windows from CD but in instalation (first blue instalation screen) when I press enter suddenly everything don't work. This is the same reaction when I run Windows instalattion from HDD. |

Yes! My guess is because the Windows 98 install loads generic drives for the CD drive, but when it goes to reboot, it replaces that generic drivers with something your computer doesn't like. What is the make and model number of this computer anyway? -- Bill |

Yes because it isn't using any CD-ROM drivers. It sounds like you should copy the Win98 folder from the CD to the HD, and install it from there. Which is hard to do without another computer to put this hard drive in. Another way is to bootup with a Windows W98 Startup disk like you are doing. It contains the generic CD driver that works for now. :) -- Bill |
