| Laptop recommendations I'm interested in buying a laptop, perhaps a Dell Inspiron, now that their tech support is supposed to be improved. How do i find the best deals for their laptops? What other laptop brands should i consider? I wouldn't use it for gaming or watching movies. It will be used mostly for school but i'd want to burn Cds and transfer photos to disc too. |

| Re: Laptop recommendations " How do I find the best deals for their laptops? " Not sure what you're asking ... You can only buy them at dell.com ( or their refurb site). You can't get them at retail stores. <pappa1928@luukku.com> wrote in message news:1162717977.453872.188480@h54g2000cwb.googlegr oups.com... > Hi, > > Check out http://www.ibmsystems.co.uk/ on all laptop issues. | Re: Laptop recommendations For all brands, not just Dell, the key is Patience. The deals will come if you wait and are patient. Your job is just to keep checking. For Dell: www.techbargains.com every day. A "good" deal is 30% off; happens often (probably monthly). A fantastic deal (only happens once-twice a year) is 50% off. For other brands: Check the Sunday advertising supplements from Office Max, OfficeDepot, Best Buy, Staples, Circuit City, CompUSA, Frys. We are coming into the best time of the year, fantastic deals are likely between now and about December 15th. Personally, I'd recommend Dell, Toshiba and probably Lenovo (Thinkpad). Get a system using a Core Duo or Core 2 Duo processor, with a DVD burner drive. Personally, I'm looking at the Dell E1505 (which is the same computer as the 6400 but with a different software configuration), and the Toshiba A105 series (watch that one, there are about 7 dozen different configurations, many of which should be avoided ... stick with those using a Core Duo or Core 2 Duo (Pentium M would be ok if the price was VERY right (under $500)) Avoid any with a Celeron, avoid any with Intel GMA900 video systems. shareyourknowledge********.com wrote: > I'm interested in buying a laptop, perhaps a Dell Inspiron, now that > their tech support is supposed to be improved. Every Sunday AM I open it to see the sales. I've been looking for a basic laptop - today Walmart had Compaqs for $398 but only 40-50 per store and they were gone when I got there. > We are coming into the best time of the year, fantastic deals are > likely between now and about December 15th. > > Personally, I'd recommend Dell, Toshiba and probably Lenovo > (Thinkpad). | Re: Laptop recommendations Hi Barry- Thanks for your reply. Are the Dell laptops at Techbargains new with warranties or are they seconds, pehaps some with cosmetic blemishes? | Re: Laptop recommendations I like the Compaq V5000z or V4000z with the Turion64 X2 dual core AMD processor. I recommend you order directly from Compaq. This way you don't have to deal with all the rebate hassles. The price is about the same as Office Depot or Frys. One big advantage is that you can customize your system. These models range from $699-$899 depending on the configuration. These laptops are pretty amazing they are just about the most powerful x86 laptops available. The only downside is that they have a 2gb max ram capacity. The big difference in laptop prices is the video card and the Intel Centrino processor. I have a Turion64 V5000z and I am very impressed. I like the rugged case that the Compaq's have. They use a very good grade of plastic. shareyourknowledge********.com wrote: > I'm interested in buying a laptop, perhaps a Dell Inspiron, now that > their tech support is supposed to be improved. | Re: Laptop recommendations Techbargains does not sell anything. It's just a bargain hunting site that finds and reports deals available on other sites. In the case of the deals that they find on the Dell site, you will still make the purchase directly from Dell. Normally, this is mainline, 1st quality stuff right on the main Dell site, the only thing you are getting from techbargains is a "code" to give you a discount (sometime quite large, 20% to 50%). On rare occasion techbargins may note a deal at Dell's outlet site (Dell does have an outlet site for used, damaged, demo, etc. goods), but that is not normally the focus of the deals found by techbargains. It's pretty obvious, actually, that Dell actually pays techbargains to list their best deals. And not just laptops, in fact not even just computers. They have a lot of Dell digital camera deals, and sometimes Dell deals on other items (plasma TVs, networking stuff, audio stuff, etc. ... Dell has a "software and accessories" division that sells almost everything and anything electronic). shareyourknowledge********.com wrote: > Hi Barry- Thanks for your reply. | Re: Laptop recommendations I did find a Dell Inspiron E1505 at Techbargains with their discount code to use at the Dell website for $699.00... The same model directly from Dell featured in their magazine is $999.00 That's a good deal i think. Barry Watzman wrote: > Techbargains does not sell anything. | Re: Laptop recommendations No, actually, it's not such a good deal. The $699 price is fine, but when you find a "good deal" it will be a coupon code that gives you 20% to 50% off of the price of that model configured "up to" $999 or $1,299 by adding high-end options. shareyourknowledge********.com wrote: > I did find a Dell Inspiron E1505 at Techbargains with their discount > code to use at the Dell website for $699.00...
