using tabletPC as a digitizer and submonitor?

i have a tabletPC compaq TC1000.

It was really cool, good friend. but not anymore it's too slow.

i don't even touch the power button. just got some place in my room
now.

i saw it, thought what if i can use it as a digitizer and submonitor
for my desktop.

someone knows how to do that? or any tips?

thank you in advance.

Check out Ultr@VNC - http://www.ultravnc.com/

You probably would need to set the desktop monitor resolution to match
the max setting for the tablet monitor, although Ultr@VNC can "scale"
the remote monitor image to fit the viewing VNC machine (tablet in this
case), but it the image gets rather fuzzy, and responsiveness of mouse
and window updates decreases.

That's assuming your desktop and TC1000 are both running Windoze. If
you "update" the TC1000 with a modern Linux distro (I am using Ubuntu
6.06 mostly, but 6.10 was just released) and install/use krdc to view
the Windows VNC host (desktop) it handles that scaling with a bit more
pep (in my subjective opinion), although without quite the keystroke
fidelity and Ultr@VNC enhancements over the base VNC protocol (i.e. -
file transfer). If you can boot the TC1000 from a CD or DVD, you could
experiment with a "Live-CD/DVD" distro to see how it works without
installing on the TC1000.

Ah, 18 months of my life was spent on the design of the TC1000, with
many trips to Korea during the design cycle. Ate a lot of bibimbap, and
drank a lot of soju during that project.

Actually Compaq did intend it the TC1000 be used as a digitizer with a
separate monitor hooked to it for the main monitor, but it really wasn't
powerful enough for that, with the Transmeta CPU and the Nvidia NV11
graphics chip. The design goal for it was light weight, low power
consumption, and long battery life, hence the choice of the Transmeta
CPU, which at the time was the only possible CPU choice, and is what was
used in the Microsoft Reference Platform for the tablet.

Alas, there is no mode for the tablet to serve as a digitizer for
another machine. Too bad, as it's a very good, very expensive screen.

Don't ever try taking it apart. It makes brain surgery look easy.
Getting to the included DDR SO-DIMM requires complete disassembly.

Try synergy:

<http://synergy2.sourceforge.net/>

It's basically a software KVM, but without the "V".
It sends all your mouse inputs to another computer (via IP network).

It is really so bad that line of TC1x00 was discontinued! Any hope to
see it back, how do you think?
