Gday ppl

I have one of these laptops (see title).
After only one week of use it has developed a problem with its dvd/cd
drive.It started off not recognising cds in the drive and now has progressed
to not reading anything in the drive. know i should (and i will)take it back
to the shop but at the moment im 1000ks from the shop working at a
minesite.Does anyone have any ideas i could try????

Have you looked at the lense to see if it is dirty. If that isn't it
you're likely out of luck.

Sounds like one of the two lasers used in CD/DVD drives is intermittent
like a bad florescent lamp, mate. More evidence would be if the other
laser (used for DVD) still reads DVD discs just fine. If this is the
case, there is nothing you can do short of replacing the drive or the
faulty laser. :(
