ZIP and Superdisk via USB?????

I have'nt been able to get my LS120 superdisk drive installed
in winxp/pro yet. I've tried the USB hub but it dont recognize
the ouboard LS120. I wonder if there are any upgrade drivers
for either the ZIP or LS120 drives, and if anyone knows of a
vendor that sells usb-2 cables for either of the above drives.
Joe

I can't speak for the LS120, but USB zip drives are recognised by Windows
without the need for any drivers using a standard USB cable. I can't see
why the LS120 would be any different but, as I said, I am not familiar with
that piece of kit.

The Iomega supplied drivers merely give access to extra functionality on the
drive such as the ability to password protect disks.

Well the LS120 was very similar to the ZIP drives except it came in
one version only and stored 128 megs of data. I have never seen
a db25 to usb type plug cable however so dont know if there is such
a thing. The LS120 came with epp DB25 plug type cable and not a
db25 to usb type cable.

Re: ZIP and Superdisk via USB?????

Joe I think is talking only about native drives, and not about any form
of conversion cables (some of which were offered).

Zip drives came with a bunch of different interfaces, IDE, SCSI,
parallel and USB (any given drive having only one interface, but all 4
were offered in different drives).

I'm not sure what interfaces LS-120 drives were offered in, but there
might well have been a USB model, at the very end of the life of the
technology. I'm pretty sure that your statement that the LS-120's were
ONLY offered in parallel port models is incorrect. I seem to recall
both IDE and SCSI native LS-120 drives, but I'm not sure about USB.

I have a Zip drive that works with both parallel and SCSI (called the 'Zip
Plus'). Supposedly it autodetects the connection but I have only used it as
a SCSI device.

Of course there are USB models. In the US they were sold primarily by
Imation. I have an Ultrabay LS120 (that would make it ATAPI) that I used a
few times in a Portable Drive Bay with a USB connection. IIRC no additional
drivers were necessary under Windows 2000. Any drivers would be for the
interface, not the drive itself.

Actually, it doesn't autodetect as such. You have to use a different cable
for the parallel mode. However, there have been many problems with parallel
mode (though SCSI seems to work flawlessly). the Zip+ drive had some
serious quality problems which make them less than reliable. Don't ever
uses it to store the only copy of anything.

Ah! Could the DB25 connector be a SCSI interface? If so, USB to SCSI
converters are available. It would almost certainly require a conversion
cable from HD50 to DB25.
