| HELP -- DELL Inspiron 6000 Hello All, I am in need of some help in order to make my laptop, which is inspiro 6000, working again. I accidently deleted the OEM partition and since then the system does not boot from the hard disk with an error message about missing NTLDR. I have the Dell utilities CD and Windows XP Media Edition CD as well. But the problem is that Windows XP CD that I am trying to use to recover my system hangs as well now after displaying the message checking for computer hardware. My system is (was) dual boot configuration with FC4 (Linux) as the second operating system. Linux still works fine. Is there a way to get around this problem, using utilities CD, without re-installing the windows operating system. To me looks like some how boot.ini file needs to be fixed to make it point to the appropriate new partition on the hard disk. Thanks for your time and suggestions in advance. Regards, Frank |

| Re: HELP -- DELL Inspiron 6000 There is an option in the repair console to repair the boot loader. But if you truly deleted an entire partition, you are probably looking at having to rebuild the entire hard drive ... all partitons. Since one related XP partition is gone there is no telling about the whole configuration. You could hack your way back but the system configuration would be in doubt from now on. Windows computers need to be cleaned out once in a while anyway. Did you install FC4 yourself? FC6 will be out soon. You might consider a newer version. later..... |
