What model you thinking abt?

Sony VGN-UX 180P ($1,800)

It is limited to 512K which I don't think is adequate so I will probably
wait 60-90 days to see what will be available at that time.

The 180P has been discontinued. The replacement 280P has 1GB of RAM and a
40GB hard drive (instead of 30GB). It also costs a couple hundred dollars
more.

Please - you're not buying anything, period. There are UMPCs
available for under a grand new, and used one for considerably less.
