Hello,
I have a good old compaq presario 2701us laptop. Recently some
thing happened to display. It is became loose. Display will stand
without support.
Any help in fixing this is greatly appreciated.

A display that can stand without support is a good thing. Even if it is
loose.

Ooops. I typed it wrongly. Display will NOT stand without support. It
is very loose.

Not sure on that exact model , but generally there are visible hinges
along the back edge - tighten those. If you cannot see them , the may be
under a plastic trim that snaps off.

For instance, go here: ( I know it's not your PC - it's a 3500 - but its
manual is available online)

on page 2 see the hinges on the bottom of the display ( Item #1) -
THAT's what needs to be tightened - those screws on the back of the
base.
