replace DVD drive Toshiba Satellite Pro A60 C2612

I have recently purchased a new ToshibaDVD drive for my Toshiba
Satellite Pro 60 (sons asks why bother??)How do I get the old DVD drive
out of the laptop?Do I need to unscrew all of the back screws on the
back plate (they have numbers and letters) or do I just pull the DVD
drive out in some way.

Re: replace DVD drive Toshiba Satellite Pro A60 C2612

If this is an upgrade, it's not a given that you will be able to install
it (at all). If it's a same drive model replacement, it should be possible.

I don't recognize your computer model from your description ("Satellite
Pro 60"), in fact I service toshiba laptops and I'm not aware of any
such model.

The replacement procedure varies greatly. On some models, the drive can
be slid out easily without major disassembly. On other models, total
disassembly is required. Without knowing the model number, I can't get
more specific.

Ok, A60 is meaniningful; 60 is not (you left out the "A" in your
original post). Not sure if I have a service manual for that or not.
If I do, I'll get back to you.

Re: replace DVD drive Toshiba Satellite Pro A60 C2612

You can find a teardown guide for the A60 here:

http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptop...5/satA65_1.htm

Still looking for the full service manual.

A full teardown may not be necessary ... often you can remove one to
three screws and the drive will slide out without actual disassembly.
Removing the keyboard is often very useful to see how the drive is mounted.

Re: replace DVD drive Toshiba Satellite Pro A60 C2612

Ok, I do have the full service manual for the A60.

Basically, the drive is held in by one single screw on the bottom of the
laptop, with that screw removed it can be slid out. To remove the
optical drive, remove the trim pannel above the keyboard, then the
keyboard (2 screws). Turn the machine over and remove the screw going
into the optical drive from the bottom (with the keyboard removed, you
should be able to see which screw it is). Then the drive can be pushed
out (slid out) from the top where it is exposed under the keyboard.
