Sony Vaio display problems

Ok Brand new to 'Groups' so i hope i'm in the correct place...

I bought a Sony Vaio earlier this year (get back to you with the exact
model) and the screen has become corrupted. About a third ways in from
the left is a vertical line of red pixels and from that line all the
way to the right appear what i can only discribe as 'contour lines' of
red pixels over anything with any colour in it - be it a photo or dvd
movie.

Not had chance to plug it into any other monitor etc as it's only just
become a consistant problem...

....any suggestions?

Re: Sony Vaio display problems

From your description, this is most likely a failed and hardware
defective LCD panel. If that is the case, there is no fix other than
replacement of the LCD panel (which will be VERY expensive if it's out
of warranty ... could cost almost as much as a new laptop). But it
sounds like you are still in the warranty period.

It's possible it is the LCD like Barry stated he thinks it is. Although
if the same thing is there with an external monitor, all bets are off.

I don't know where you are, but someone here (UK) just sent a Vaio back with
a similar problem. It was returned repaired just 3 working days later. Not
bad considering that it had to be sent to France.

Re: Sony Vaio display problems

could you kindly tell me whether you have solved your video problem as i had purchased a vgn-fs series laptop and after a year, the video display started having the exact same problems as you're facing, Sony claims that the motherboard needs replacement which would cost around 1k "complete nonsense", i am currently pointing out to them that there are other machines around the world (i bought mine in Kuala lumpur) with this same flaw which renders our machines useless within a year "ridiculous", either we've both bought a red herring or there are others out there scratching their head, note: these VAIO'S are designed by people who build boxes that dont move & i foolishly disregarded the obvious and went for the bling bling factor

Re: Sony Vaio display problems

Hi, I have a Vaio PCGNV170. Recently when I turn on the computer the monitor shows the windows log for few sec and the monitor is black after that as if it is turned off. Now if I close and reopen the laptop the screen will be ok for 2-3 sec then every thing disappear again. I have no any error message and the machine is working ok other than that. When I touch the open close mechanical switch with any thing such as pen the screen will also turned on for few sec then off. Keep pushing that switch turned on/off. Would you please let me know what might be the diagnostic and how may I fix this problem.

Re: Sony Vaio display problems

I too am having a display problem, essentially there are hundred's of squiggly lines running across the display.
what i did find is that it affects the VGA output also so if i connect a monitor it still does it, after opening up the case, I tightened all the screws on the power button board (I call it an LED board because old Compaq Armada's were notorius for having video issues and the fix was ussually to replace it) that fixed it for a short time, but i found that if i put pressure on the case near the power button it straightens out the display.
my laptop is an older VGN-a250, does anyone know if i can get just that part?

Thanks,

Jeff
