Thinpad A22M cpu slow

I have an Thinkpad A22M with a 1Gig processor. The bios shows the processor
as that speed and I have looked at the processor on the system board and it
is the
1Gig. The problem is that WinXP in showing the processor as 700Meg. I
bought this computer used and the only odd thing is that I have no battery
in it at the moment and run it solely on AC. Anyone else seen a missing
battery slow the cpu down?? I have also downloaded the speed step software
and it makes no difference. Any thoughts?

Can't speak to the A22M but I can confirm that the Thinkpad 600X 650MHz
SpeedStep Pentium III notebook changes to 500MHz if there is no battery
(and even with a non-IBM battery!) so that may well be your problem.

What? Really? What brain dead engineer thought that one up? I hope his
current job is working at a fast food restaurant somewhere. :|

:-)

I see here:
http://groups.google.co.uk/group/ibm...42826bc2da5425
that indeed the A2x and other models are similarly afflicted.

Wow amazing! Using the battery for short brief periods of high current
demand which the AC adapter can't supply. Hmmm! :(
