VAIO VGN-B1VP - No boot, heat problem

Good day,
I have a SONY VAIO VGN-BX1V that suffered a run in with some coca-cola on the key board last year. When it happened I dried everything out and cleaned it all up. It carried on working for about a week before stopping all together.
From time to time I try to turn it on and see if it works. And from time to time it does work sporadically.

I know that the keyboard does not work 100% because I think the data cable from the keyboard to the motherboard is damaged, maybe corrosion. This means that I can’t log into my OS because I can’t type the password completely.
The way I get it to boot up is to remove the touch page, the dvd drive. I then plug it in and power on.
It works for about 5-10 minutes and sometimes makes it to the login screen, but usually it locks up before then. If I try to turn it off and back on, the led power light works but the screen doesn’t power up and the hard drive shows no activity.

If I leave it for about 30-60 minutes and try again, it works in the same manner as before.
As I was cleaning the coca-cola I had to remove the CPU fan and heat sink. I have reattached them but the thermal contact paste doesn’t connect the heat sink to the CPU properly and the fan doesn’t work at all.
This has led me to think that maybe the reason the computer locks up and requires a resting period is because the CPU is overheating.

Is this a possibility?

I would like to get this computer back on it’s feet as to have something just to type and surf on would be very useful. I would consider buying a new CPU, hard drive, RAM and external keyboard if it would help.
Many thanksJ
Stephen
