Nowadays, videos are all over the Internet. Bloggers from all corners of the world are posting their opinions, ideas, and insights on the Internet using video. Who knows, some day the Internet might only be videos. According to *** Zhang, in two years, 98% of the Internet traffic will be videos. Unfortunately, many search engines can't search through videos. However, there is a solution!
Jason Pinton, from the
New York Times,
wrote a story about Suranga Chandratillake, a co-founder of Blinkx.
Blinkx is a search engine for videos located on
YouTube,
MySpace,
Google Videos, and other search engines. By typing in a few key words, you may be able to find the video you are looking for. Although it's not perfect, at the moment it is better than other search engines at locating videos. Why? Because Blinkx locates videos based on speech recognition. Basically, the search engine searches through the different words of the video, to find videos which may have something to do with what you're looking for. This method isn't perfect, but it is more effective than other methods which are being used by different search engines.
Another plus, when your search results come up there is a preview of each video. This means that you don't have to watch each video to see if it's the one you want. This definitely saves time and energy. The downside, the previews go in order. This means that you have to watch the preview for each video above the one you want to watch, in addition to the preview you want to watch. Every preview is 14 seconds long.
Although, Blinkx is currently the only search engine using this method, some day in the future all search engines may being doing this or maybe even more. However, until then, the solution to all your video searching needs can be solved by using Blinkx.
