| OneNote Mobile will not install on Windows Mobile 2003 SE smartpho When I try to install OneNote Mobil 2007 to my Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition Version 4.21.1088 (Build 14132) Sprint PPC6601 smartphone, I get the error "OneNote mobile supports all devices running at least Microsoft Windows Mobile 5 or smartphones running at least Windows Mobile 2003. The connected device does not meet these requirements" So what gives, is my phone not a "smartphone" (the box it arrived in says it is), is the error message incorrect, or is the error thrown out in error? Anyone have some suggestion? Is it a fact of the carrier locking out changes? If so, I would expect a different message than what I have. Perhaps a developer among the group may have some input. Thanks and best regards, Bill Laakkonen |

| RE: OneNote Mobile will not install on Windows Mobile 2003 SE smartpho I get the same message when I try to install it on my Dell Axim x30. Will it not work on Pocket PC 2003? Dell won't provide an upgrade to Windows Mobile 5, and I read in the OneNote blog that the beta of OneNote Mobile would install on Pocket PC 2003. | RE: OneNote Mobile will not install on Windows Mobile 2003 SE smartpho For a PocketPC, you need Windows Mobile 5. Smartphones only require Windows Mobile 2003 SE. The dead giveaway whether you have a PocketPC or not is a stylus. If you have one, then you have a PocketPC. Yes, the PPC6600/6601 Pocket PC smartphone does indeed have a stylus. | Re: OneNote Mobile will not install on Windows Mobile 2003 SE smar There are three different devices: Pocket PCs, Pocket PC Phones and Smartphones. If you have a stylus, you have a Pocket PC or a Pocket PC Phone, not a real Smartphone. For a Pocket PC or a Pocket PC Phone, you need Windows Mobile 5. Only a real Smartphone will work with Windows Mobil 2003 SE. | Re: OneNote Mobile will not install on Windows Mobile 2003 SE smar Thanks for the help Patrick, I found a "patcher" utility http://www.laymanaidsoft.com/onenotemobilepatcher.html which seems to address this issue but it would be nice to know hear from Microsoft staffers about this. The presence of a commercially offered "patch" would indicate there is a definite need expressed by frustrated Office users- at least the ones who upgraded their 2003 Office suite to 2007. For the moment it seems an Office 2007 upgrade also may mean a device made in 2005/6 is required to be replaced for official support. I personally have 5 of these devices and several customers with tens of these so I will not play up OneNote features to them when they have Windows Mobile 2003 SE devices. I hope to officially hear this is information is incorrect as I am looking forward to selling more Office 2007 upgrades in the days ahead...
