How do i get the page title to only show up on the tab

Hi,

Any help would be appreciated. I am new to OneNote and am muddling my way
through most of it. Very cool.

One thing I find frustrating is the page title box on every page. I found
the option to remove it under the "format" tab, but when I do it disappears
from the tab as well.

How do I get the in-page title box to go away, but keep the page title in
the label on the side of the page?

The only thing I could find on the web was someone saying "You can't.
Period. It's for good reasons. Period." Which struck me as mildly insane.

Thanks in advance for any help.

If you don't have anything in the title box, your page title should be
picked up from the first line of text on the notes page.

That said, where would you want OneNote to pick up the title from, if not
from the title area?

Re: How do i get the page title to only show up on the tab

Thanks for the reply, Kathy.

I've had another couple days to play around with it.., and now see the
"first line" business. Hadn't seen that.

What I was looking for was a way to rename the tab itself.

I was just trying to find a way to make the box go away but keep the title.

I'm also trying to find a way to turn the title box off globally. I have to
remove it for every page.

Thanks for your help.

Re: How do i get the page title to only show up on the tab

Are you by chance using OneNote 2007? If so, check out Format--> Show Page
title. You still have to do it for every page, but at least that will make
it a little easier. (I would have suggested this earlier, but I forgot it
was there.) Oh - now I remember why I didn't suggest it: If you turn it off
this way, the page title goes away and the first line is used
automatically... not much help for what you want.

Now.. Here is a cool hint: You can turn off the title page, then save that
page as a template. When you use it as a template, no title area (tab title
is picked up from first line).

Another idea: Add your title as white text. Then it won't show on the page,
but will on the tab. Would combining that with your own template work any
better?

All very helpful hints, thank you very much.

One thing to be said for this software... I feel sure that the more I am
willing to put into it, the more I will get out of it.
