Hi,
I'm interested in trying OneNote 2010. Does anyone know if I'm able to
install just OneNote 2010, over top of my home Office 2007 installation?

Or, if I uninstall 2007 as MS suggests, will the 2010 documents be
backwards compatible if I later decide to not purchase 2010?

Finally, should I expect to be able to use the 2010 beta up until 2010
is actually released? Or will there certainly be a gap in which I will
need to revert to 2007?

The Office 10 beta is set to expire in October 2010. The final version
should have shipped by then, and if it is delayed I am willing to bet
that the beta would be extended so that there is no gap.

There is compatibility between 2007 and 2010 Notebooks. At any time you
can convert between them. This would be a potential last step to do before
uninstalling 2010 if you decide to revert back and use 2007.

Typically there is an overlap between the end of the beta and the shipping
date of the released product.

Expire in October 2010?
Does that mean that after the 3 day trial period, we will still be able to
use the beta?

If you don't upgrade your notebooks to the 2010 format (which we don't do by
default) then you will be all set between versions. I would just upgrade
over 2007 and then all of your settings go as well, whereas if you uninstall
& then install those settings don't migrate.

IIRC in 2010 the settings made on one machine can be transferred to a
another machine.
I have forgotten, however, how this works :-(

OneNote 2007 displays a message stating something like it cannot open a
given Notebook since its format is from a later version. You would have to
convert all of the Notebooks back to 2007 format from ON2010 before
uninstalling it.

If it helps, and if you used Office in those days, think of how MS Access
had different formats between versions. If you had an Access 1.1 database
you needed to convert it before it would run correctly in Access 2.0.
