when i send things to onenote they go to the unfiled notes section. none of
the notes get a page title. i can can turn on the page title manually, but
how do i tell onenote to put a page title on all new notes automatically?

If you have OneNote's Unfiled Notes section open and create new notes from
within it, here is how to do it:

This will not work for using WIN+N to create a new side note, though. Those
things are small enough that putting a title on it takes up too much room.

John, it is the creation of notes from outside onenote that i am thinking
of. eg, windows-n, or just highlighting and sending to onenote from within a
browser. it would be good to be able to set a default for using the default
unfiled notes page.

as long as you are passing info along, on a tangential item: will onenote
2010 have more robust tag searching? being able to enter tags when saving
from outside of onenote would also be useful (anything that expedites the
info storing procedure). and then being able to retrieve items that have a
particular collection of tags. the inability of being able to do even
rudimentary boolean tag searches in onenote has been a drawback to using
onenote tags .

Sorry, John, to me it seems that this not on topic for what the OP is
after :-(

This question comes up from time to time and I think to remember that
there was workaround by by enable the standard view for sidenotes and
save that. I can not get it gong, however :-( :-(

i just figured out a way to put titles on notes that i send to onenote. i
noticed that onenote takes the first few words of the note as title. so, if
i block text, right click>"send to onenote", a screen appears with the note.
i move the note down and type whatever i want as title at the top of page.
this now automatically becomes the new note title.

simple.
