Pictures in file format

I am adding pictures of my students work to one note. I don't want to view
the large size of the picture, I would rather use the file format that shows
me their name and be able to bring up their work. I have tried that, and
when it happens occassionally I see a picture, but most of the time I get the
message no pictures or videos were selected. Is is something I am doing
wrong? Or can I add files and still see the pictures?
