inserted files

Hi,

I keep my ON files on a USB stick. I explore all folders but cannot see the
pdf or .doc files I inserted in some pages. I am still able to open the pdf
and .doc files but cannot see where they are located. I remember myself
seeing them sometime ago tough....

In a subdirectory OnenoteOfflineCache_Files of the directory which
contains the cache OnenoteOfflineCache.onecache.

The files are stored inside the OneNote section file. OneNote will
extract a temporary copy if you open it, and then save any changes that
you make to that temporary copy. If you need another copy, you can
right-click the file and select SaveAs.

Despite what some people might tell you, do not edit the files directly
in the OneNote cache folder. Doing so can lead to unexpected sync
behavior, possibly including losing some edits to those files.

Referring to the answer from Ilya:
I NEVER wanted to encourage you to change files in the cache, this is
naturally unwise ...
I only wanted to answer your question where you could have seen this
files in the past.

People I used to see the files inside the subfolders of my notebook on my
usb stick. I don't see them now. It is not about the cache, it is about the
folders on my usb stick. I used to have them on my usb stick.

This one of the strangest things I have heard for a loooooong time ...

I never ever saw any source files in between the notebook files!

Could it be that you had saved the sources on the stick?
Purposely?
By mistake?

Rainald
P.S. (OT): Earlier this week I bought an external 1.8" HDD with 120GB.
I installed ON on it with Ceedo.
Works like a charm!!!
This way it really works on *any* computer - ON being installed or not!
Caveat: The "Send to OneNote"-printer won't work this way if ON is not
installed on the computer. Everything else exhibits no difference.

Maybe. But then suppose I deleted the cache file and opened the notebooks
from my usb stick again. Then the pdf files will appear again I guess. But
this means that the files are kept on my usb stick somewhere right? Then
where?

I remember our discussion about Ceedo. It is really good yes. I tried it and
works!

Yes/No!
If the file is *embedded* it's stored *inside* the resp. ONE-file. It
will not appear elsewhere (except the cache).

Yes, but the previous discussions were on Ceedo installed on a *stick*.
I just wanted to give an update of the info. The 1.8" drives are really
small and IMHO working with such a drive might make things ways easier.
