| deleting a Notebook I know that the only way to delete an entire notebook is in Windows Explorer rather than in OneNote itself. But - what do you do if there is a Notebook that you DON'T want in OneNote but it doesn't show up anywhere in Windows Explorer so you can't delete it?! I have even set up Explorer to show hidden files, in case it had become hidden, but it still isn't showing up. Can somebody help me? |

| RE: deleting a Notebook I'm sure there is a more elegant method but, I just searched all drives for *.one. This is a "brute force" approach but it worked for me. You just have to look at the right place ;-) > I have > even set up Explorer to show hidden files, in case it had become > hidden, but it still isn't showing up. How do you know that the file still exists? Can somebody help me? Help yourself <g> : Just *search* for *.ONE files. Most probably you just had put the file to a wrong place. Rainald P.S. When the file is still open, one can check for the physical location of a notebook by moving the mouse-cursor over the notebook's bar in the Navigation Pane; the yellow speed-tip (balloon-tip) shows the full path. One can also right-click on the bar and select "Properties" from the context menu. Rainald |

| Re: deleting a Notebook Thanks to you both. In answer to Bob, it is Sections that have the suffix *.one - Notebooks are equivalent to Folders. I realised, though, that the problem I was really having was that the same Notebook was appearing TWICE, in two different places, in the Navigation Pane - for some odd reason. If I deleted it in Explorer - everything went! I solved it by moving all the sections (temporarily) somewhere else in Windows Explorer. I then deleted the Notebook (in Explorer); re-created it (in OneNote); then (in Explorer) I moved the sections into it. Bingo! In the middle of me trying to solve the problem, OneNote created a sort of Notebook called 'Open Sections' - I've never seen that before - but now it has changed its mind and that has gone. | Re: deleting a Notebook Thanks for your success report! It seems that you must have done something really odd to have the same notebook appear twice. "Open Sections" is not a *notebook*. This entry always appears when a section is opened which is not stored in the hierarchy of a notebook. And it appears if one opens a section directly. As now everything seems to be OK, I recommend to clear the cache. This can be done from "Tools | Options | Save" with the button "Optimize all files". Rainald oistrakhan wrote: > Thanks to you both. | Re: deleting a Notebook Just done exactly what you suggest. Thanks. (We'll never know why a Notebook decided to clone itself - in the Navigation Pane but NOT in Windows Explorer).
