Here is the set up. I'm running a desktop and a netbook using CEEDO. I'm
fine on both systems if I plug in the CEEDO drive via USB. Very often I'm
using the netbook with out the CEEDO drive.

QUESTION: How can I keep the stand alone net book in sync?

I've transferred the notebooks from the CEEDO drive and opened them with
the "netbook native" OneNote. It appears that in this case OneNote has
nothing to sync to and the Sync commands are grayed out. I understand that
CEEDO OneNote and native ON are two different instances and never run at the
same time.

I did a search on *.one and my notebooks only show up in the "C:\ACRE
OneNote files" directory to which I copied them.

So there you are. I know I can brute force it by just running a file
syncing app, but...that's not elegant.

drive is not plugged in then native ON has nothing with which to sync. That
said perhaps I should open the notebooks that are on the CEEDO drive when
it's plugged in. Would that let it sync. Then I could force a sync every
time the native ON was run and the CEEDO ON was available??

I'll run some tests.

This *not* your problem.

The problem is the wring approach with file-storage.
Synching in ON is totally different from what one normally is used from
a *file-synch*.
The basic thing is that ON only synchs notebook which were opened
*shared*.

This means that you followed a wrong concept when copying the notebook
files to the netbook and opened the files from there.

Instead you have to open the notebooks from the *Ceedo-drive*.
You'll then see the synching icon in green and can sync.

As long as the drive attached, ON will synch automatically.
If the drive is removed, ON will work with the *Cache*.
The synching icon will be grayed.

As soon as the drive is reconnected, ON will automatically detect this
and then sync the changes.

The only things to be stored on the computer would be backups.

Rainald,
I'm using a 400gb external hard drive. the performance is generally good.
It does really lag on "MapSorce". I think the graphic stuff really drags it
down.

It's well after cocktail hour here so I'll look at your other comments

Well it's morning here and I'm up and alert. I had done what you suggest
before I started using CEEDO. It just slipped my mind. A "Senior moment".

I actually used the "Change location" option and pointed the native ON to
the CEEDO drive and it synced fine. I think I'm going to change it to point
at the CEEDO drive while it is shared from the Desktop on my network. That
way I only need to start ON native and it will sync before I take off on my
motorcycle. In that case I will not need to physically move the external
HDD. If I am taking the CEEDO drive with me then, everything worksjust like
the desktop.

To answer your question:
I use CEEDO continuously on my desk top. I mostly run FireFox, Outlook and
ON. I don't notice any speed problems with this setup. The Garmin mapping
program is slow under CEEDO but it works. Other programs, GOM player, Adobe
Photo shop Album work fine.

The drive is a 400gb Western Digital 2209A.

And you should always leave all notebooks open on all computers

Is this a 2.5" drive?
Otherwise it might be a bit too big for a drive "to go".

I'm thinking of getting a SSD. But they still are really expensive.

So far I only tried Ceedo and OneNote only on a stick. I'll have to get
a really fast one.

I'll answer some of your questions:

I like to have everything in one place. I have backups of course. All of
my saved information is on the CEEDO drive; Outlook mail.pictures, all data.
If I have may CEEDO drive I have everything no matter where I am. I don't
need to keep track of where my mail or ON files reside. As I have said I do
run mapping programs from the desktop because it's faster but, the maps are
on the external HDD.

I also keep copies of movies on the HDD for travel.

I couldn't find it either. Unfortunately I can't find the order information
or the packing slip.
the drive is 2.5 small black case with rubber protectors on the ends.
I have it partitioned in to two 200gb partitions. It worked fine during and
after the 5k mile motorcycle trip.

I think we mentioned this before -- I do have office 2007 enterprise
installed on all 3 of my computers and the external HDD. You need that for
the "Print to ON facility" since CEEDO does not store drivers it uses the
host machine.

Makes a lot of sense.
Another big advantage IMO is the fact that no traces are left behind and
providing "privacy". Really important for surfing on someone else's
computer. And this is a real problem with ON because of the cache. The
basic constructions of ON do not allow storing the cache on an external
device. And eve after having "optimized" the cache after having closed a
notebook opened from a stick, a lot of things are left behind.

Thanks for the information. Did not yet come across this. As said, so
far I did not yet really work with ON under Ceedo.

I found the drive. I was using the wrong numbers off of the case for the
model number.

the HDD just take too long to pop up the maps.

post by dba123. I think that it would solve his problem but I haven't heard
back yet.
