OneNote live sharing sessions

Hi,

We are thinking about using a live sharing session for an upcoming meeting.

1. Is there a maximum number of participants for the sharing session to function?

2. Can the host of the session monitor content such as tracking who delivered what input? Furthermore is it possible to revoke sharing privileges mid-session to an individual for part of the session?

3. Can I set onenote to auto-save versions of the document in 10 minute time intervals?

Thanks!

Re: OneNote live sharing sessions

Hi Gretchen,

I really like using Live Sharing for having multiple people take notes at the same time. In answer to your questions:
  • The maximum number of Live Sharing users are:
  • Approximately 15-20 for Windows XP
  • Approximately 10 for Vista users

These numbers are approximate and not hard and fast number. Dan E. does a nice job of detailing this in this blog article:
  • You can see who put what input in by selecting the cross-hairs on a note container and right-clicking on it and looking at the bottom. If someone modifies that same text though only the person who made the latest changes will appear.
In answer to the second part of this question you cannot kick one user out mid-session. You would have to stop the session and then restart the session and maybe use a different password.
  • OneNote saves automatically and does not save different versions. You will have to wait until OneNote 2010 for versioning.
Another option is to share the notebook using SharePoint and turn versioning on your document library and have it sync every 10 minutes. Be careful though because you will have a ton of versions within SharePoint possibly.

Hope this helps,
-> Malcolm
