I want to print to one note and end up with an icon rather than a full-text
page. I am actually using this to scan support documents into another
document, so I am scanning using the scanner profile equivalent of
scan-to-fax printer, but using onenote instead.

Try it with "Insert | Picture | Camera" (Alt+I,P,S).

SORRY--LOST MY VPN right when I was responding, nothing posted....

I am on WinXP, and have Winfax, although I am not actually using the fax
driver. I cloned the Scan to fax profile of my HP Scanjet 7800 because that
directs the doument to a printer driver (which I would normally set to
Winfax), in this case I am using the Send to Onenote driver, but I cannot
find a setting within those printer settings to embed the incoming printout
as any variety of document as an icon. My goal is to not have to scan and
save into a file in My Documents and then insert it, because I am going to be
dealing with a lot of scans, and lots of steps if I have to keep
scan/save/insert-ing.

Comment not directly related to OneNote, but anyway....

I wouldn't recommend getting too attached to WinFax. First, it's
apparently orphaned -- Symantec doesn't even list it for sale any more on
their web site. Second, last I looked, the latest version I could find
was still incompatible with Vista, and therefore presumably later versions
of Windows as well.

The "Fax Console" in Windows XP, and the more robust Fax-and-Scan
component of Vista, are pretty adequate for most faxing purposes, at least
those that I've needed.

In XP, by default fax support is not installed. Go into Control Panel,
select Add & Remove Programs. Down the left side of that window will be a
link to Add/Remove Windows Components. Select that, then you can add fax
support. You will probably need your XP disk to complete the installation
of that component. Once that's done, look in your start menu under
Accessories, then Communications, then Fax. The "Fax Console" will be
listed there -- just run that and the fist-time wizard will walk you
through configuring fax services on your computer.

In Vista, I believe Fax support is already loaded by default, but it's
been a while since I installed Vista so I don't remember offhand. It's in
Accessories, listed as "Windows Fax and Scan" and functions very similar
to the version in XP but is a bit more feature-rich.

I am using Winfax because it still integrates with an app I use, it is not
the best, I agree....your point is well taken. I expect to change it when
practical.

The fax software does not really enter into my question in this case, as it
is not part of the process here, I simply used it as an example of the
scanning process, where something is scanned and sent to another program.

Any one have any thoughts about how to embed a document as an icon when sent
from a scanner?

I know, that is why I prefaced my remark with the caveat that it's
not directly related. Just noticed the WinFax product being mentioned
and thought I would advise you of the status of that product.
