Repost- please answer and not ask an obvious question.

I had NOT used OneNote since the beta until this week. I just tried to make
a new note and cannot open a new page. Old Office Beta HAD to be installed
to install new one (so please don't ask if the old beta is still on line)

I am trying to create a new note in a given notebook. NO NEW notes can be
created. I can read each and every existing note. I can see the other
notebook (the one from the install extolling the virtues of OneNote 2007;
it's the same notebook in a different file as the one from the beta).
I want to create a note in ANY of my given tabs to no avail.

Hello RAAckerman,

Were the old notes upgraded from 2003 format? without upgrading, I believe
on2007 treats those pages as readonly.

Re: Repost- please answer and not ask an obvious question.

You might be in Reduced Functionality Mode when all editing functionality is
disabled. From your post it's not clear which build of OneNote you are
running, but if it's Beta then it's about time for it to expire and RFM is
designed behaviour. Do you get any prompts when you boot OneNote? Did you
have any other Beta Office apps installed? Do they allow editing?

If RFM is the problem then, in order to continue using your notes, you need
to *uninstall* the Beta builds of all Office applications including OneNote
and then install released version of OneNote/Office 2007. Trials are already
available and there is also MSDN subscription. The boxes will hit retail
stores in March/April.

Re: Repost- please answer and not ask an obvious question.

Saw your previous post, still not clear which build you are running :)
Could you pelase go to <Help | About> in OneNote and tell us the version it
reports in the top line, should be something along the lines of 12.0.4***.10**

Also, can you make any edits to existing notes? Add or delete text, for
example.

Re: Repost- please answer and not ask an obvious question.

As stated, this is FULL Copy. As stated, Beta was removed. NO prompts when
booting one note, no prompts when reading a note, only NO new note can be
prepared.

The version number you report is the sameas what I have for my final
(RTM).
Still:
Initially you said:
"Old Office Beta HAD to be installed to install new one (so please
don't ask if the old beta is still on line)"

Are the Betas (old and new and B2TR) removed from the system or not?

Rainald

Re: Repost- please answer and not ask an obvious question.

I screwed up, sorry. The Beta was uninstalled prior to installing Office2007
and prior to installing OneNote2007. the system said it had to change the
structure of the files and I never used it until this week, when I found I
was locked out of my notebook.

Re: Repost- please answer and not ask an obvious question.

RFM mode should prompt on boot, so if you are getting no messages, it's
probably not it...

Another possible explanation is that your notes became read-only. Try
creating completely new notebook on your local drive: <File | New | Notebook>
- choose "Blank" for the template, give it any name, in the next screen of
the wizard leave default "I will use it on this computer" but in the next
screen provide some local path not under "OneNote Notebooks", e.g.
"c:\ON_test" would do.

Please post back to this forum on whether you could create the new notebook
and whether it's editable. If so, the next step is to try to figure out why
your existing notes are RO (please describe their location, no exact path
necessary but I'd need to know if they are local under "My Documents", in
customized folders or UNC shared).

If creation of new notebooks is also disabled then you are definitely in RFM
mode (not sure why you are not getting the prompt, though). Where did you
install your current build from? Was it a trial, MSDN subscription, something
else? How many times did you attempt to install-reinstall the RTM version of
OneNote? Where did you get the product key from (e.g. from the Trial site)?

Thanks,
Irina

Thanks for the clarification!

Do you still have copies (backups) of the stuff in the old shape so
that you could open the notebooks again?

Rainald
