| Shortcuts and Lasso Disable I am using One Note 2007 on a tablet PC and I have a few gripes that are preventing me from enjoying OneNote completely. First there seems to be a lack of keyboard shortcuts for different tools. I would like keyboard shortcuts for the pen tool, selection tool, and text tool among other things, but I can't seem to find them in any help files. Are there shortcuts for this or at least a way to customize keyboard shortcuts? Also, I don't like how on a tablet PC right clicking and dragging creates a lasso selection action. Can I disable this? |

| Re: Shortcuts and Lasso Disable There are a lot of KB shortcuts for OneNote. Check the Help menu for "Keyboard Shortcuts". Scroll down past the general sections which apply to all of Office for the ON-specific ones. The use of the Lasso tool when right-clicking and dragging may be something that your Tablet's pen is doing. ON doesn't support RC-and- Drag, so your pen might be adding a feature on its own. If you just drag or right-click with the Pen, you should be able to keep those features separate. =?Utf-8?B?VGlt?= <Tim@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in news:CE867621-5FB8-4B06-A8E1-A23329086BDE@microsoft.com: > I am using One Note 2007 on a tablet PC and I have a few gripes that > are preventing me from enjoying OneNote completely. > > First there seems to be a lack of keyboard shortcuts for different > tools. | Re: Shortcuts and Lasso Disable Thanks for the reply, I have seen the list of shortcuts but none of them apply to the situations that I described in my post. They were more generalized shortcuts like copy/paste, and shift clicking to select a range of objects. I am looking for shortcuts to switch between tools such as the pen and text tool. The reason ON is making a lasso is because it recognizes the difference between normal mouse and tablet input, when you RC-Drag while using the pen tool with a mouse it creates a selection box, however when the tablet is used doing a RC-Drag gesture ON is programmed to draw a lasso style selection. The problem with this isn't using normal RC functions, my problem is that I want to use a third party mouse gesture program that uses RC-Drag and the ON RC-Drag function is overriding the program I am using, so if I could disable the RC-Drag functionality in ON I could use the program. Thank you. "Erik Sojka (MVP)" wrote: > There are a lot of KB shortcuts for OneNote. Check the Help menu for > "Keyboard Shortcuts". | Re: Shortcuts and Lasso Disable Oh, I see the KB shortcut menu item. I did notice it before but when I click on it it just opens the help window but it doesn't show any KB shortcuts. I don't know if this is a glitch or what because right now it's just doing what the normal help menu item does. "Erik Sojka (MVP)" wrote: > There are a lot of KB shortcuts for OneNote. Can I disable this? Wow, Interesting. By "tablet PC" you are definitely not meaning "Slate", I take it... |

This will open the list of shortcuts. Rainald |

Yes, there's that. But: Usage of a keyboard of any sort kills the advantages of using the pen - none of the TabletPCs used with a keyboard provides an ergonomical way of working with the pen at the same time. > just not sure if additional keyboard shortcuts would > really be much of a focus for that occasional use... and if it is > would they really be better served by a non-slate machine... ) For sure! It was one of the points which I heavily criticized during the Beta that ON not really is TabletPC-oriented enough. There are ways too many keyboard shortcuts without any *visual* (clickable) equivalents. And this makes it really hard to make full usage of a TabletPC is slate mode. Obviously the development team did not really go through serious testing the product with a pen only. They would have found ways to enable the special functions for slate-usage otherwise. Not too much sense IMHO in investing a lot of time and creativity to enable pen usage and inking and all that on the one side and restricting a larger number of important features to the usage of a keyboard OTH. What we have at present in so far is half-way only. [siiigh] This is a most serious drawback and I'm seriously suffering from that day by day as I'm normally using my tc1100 in slate mode and use the keyboard only for certain special activities (when configuring the system or when having to write larger texts "on the road"). The "TIP" does not provide enough means for making use of the ON keyboard shortcuts and the usage of the "OSK" (windows OnScreen keyboard) - which works better with shortcut-key combinations - is highly contra-productive when working in ON. It's a PITA. Rainald |

| Re: Shortcuts and Lasso Disable Ahh, but I have an ace up my sleeve. I use a mouse gesture program that listens to Right click and drag gestures and then send shortcuts to any program, it's called stroke it. And that is why I need Right click and keyboard Shortcuts. |

Thanks for the pointer. > And that is why I need Right click and keyboard Shortcuts. Sorry, I can't see the logical connection with the subjcet of this thread (the lasso). Could you pls explain a bit more. Rainald P.S. Did you find the shortcut list meanwhile? |

I found a shortcut list, here http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/on...125361033.aspx but it didn't have any tools shortcuts I wanted. When I click on keyboard shortcuts on the help bar in onenote it doesn't work. |

Thanks for explaining. I seem to have got it now. I do not see any possibility, however, to disable the lasso utility. It seems that you'd better file a bug/suggestion in Connect www.connect.microsoft. Having done so, you might let us know here so that we could jump on. >> P.S. When I click on > keyboard shortcuts on the help bar in onenote it doesn't work. This is really strange. It has been working fine for me in the Beta and it works in the current version (tested it prior to my previous reply). What happens when you click on the menu-item in the "?" menu? Rainald P.S. Picked the posting from the outbasket: I tried it again because I was still wondering what it might be on your side. The Help Window opened as usual and started loading the online content. And then the windows was blank and after a while the browser came up with the Office Online page. Never had that before. I tried it again several times. The strange behaviour was not repeated. The list opened fine in the Help-window. It seems to be a problem with loading the content for the window over the net. [grrrrrhh] The most-hated feature of Office 2007 is the construction of HELP only available online. I seriously miss the traditional HLP-instruments. I wonder how users in Bourkina Faso might get help ... For many long years the acronym for the HLP in Windows was "OLH" which meant "online help". This was not "online" but files on the HDD. Now we have got "web-help". Would perhaps be OK if this was available *in*addition* to a HLP-system sitting locally. BUT IMHO it's simply crazy to offer Help for standard features of applications only via the web. I estimate it to be absurd to believe that all users in this whole wide world would be connected to internet on 24/7 basis. |

| Re: Shortcuts and Lasso Disable well under "Help" there are the menu items are "Microsoft office onenote help", and "keyboard shortcuts". Both buttons do the sane thing. They open a help file, and goto the same page. But it's odd that your help file is online mine is a help file and I tout even see an online help button. > >> P.S. Selecting "Keyboard Shortcuts" directly jumps to the page with the shortcut list > But it's odd > that your help file is online mine is a help file and I tout even > see an online help button. Thnaks for letting me know. After asking the German Office newsgroup I could clear this meanwhile: The secreting is the setting for how Help is to work. The Help-Window (the same in the other Office 2007 apps) has an interactive part at the right side of the status bar. Clicking there one can select the way Help works from a menu, online or offline. So I meenawhile switched online off. If I really need it I can always call it from the Help-menu. Thanks for the pointer Rainald |
