I have found that once I installed MS06-051 on my system, onenote locks up
during initialization (about 50% of the time I launch onenote).

If I uninstall activesync, the problem disappears and onenote starts fine.
If I uninstall MS06-051, the problem disappears and onenote starts fine.

KB924867 hotfix for MS06-051 does not help.

here are the software versions I using:
win XP SP2
onenote 2003 SP2
activesync 4.2

Hi Patrick. Note that Rusty specified he is using OneNote 2003 when this
lockup happens. I am having a similar problem; OneNote is locking up for me
now every time I try to start it. The outer border of the main window
appears, and part of the main toolbar paints, and then it freezes.

Last XP updates rolled out via SMS were: KB922819, KB923191, KB925486,
KB924496, KB924191, KB923414.

Do you know what is going on? Do you have any suggestions? I would be
**very** grateful for any advice.

hi KC,
Another guy at work has the same exact problem with onenote lock ups and
activesync, and given I'm on XP build that is only a few months old, I
believe that the problem is not a configuration issue. I even did a system
restore to the first day I got the computer, and if I install activesync and
ms06-051, onenote begins to lockup right away on initialization.

I have filed a bug on MS connect, but have not received feedback yet.

if you login to Connect, and mention on the bug report that you have seen
the issue as well, the thread may get the addition of a developer.

Has anyone determined what the problem with this is? I have the same
issue with OneNote 2003 and ActiveSync. If anyone could advise me on
this problem, that would be great
