| How do I save OneNote files to a web site so I can share my notes? I've been trying to figure out how to use OneNote and, apparently, I can snyc my notes between two or more computers. I want to save my notes to a password protected web site so that my computers can share all of my OneNote materials. Is this possible? If so, how? I've looked EVERYWHERE for the information and nothing works. Thanks. |

| Re: How do I save OneNote files to a web site so I can share my notes? This can be done, but the preferred solution is a Share Notebook running on a SharePoint server. There are some workarounds, but SP is the preferred solution. http://blogs.msdn.com/chris_pratley/...ng-onenote-on- two-or-more-machines.aspx =?Utf-8?B?Q2x1ZWxlc3M=?= <Clueless@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in news:3EC04577-400F-43CE-AE30-2FD10C431D46@microsoft.com: > I've been trying to figure out how to use OneNote and, apparently, I > can snyc my notes between two or more computers. | Re: How do I save OneNote files to a web site so I can share my no Hi Erik, I have not set up a server before - I'm assuming it's difficult? Let me define what I'm trying to do a bit more - I've returned to school and would like to make sure that I have that exact same files available whether I'm at home (where I use my desktop) and at school (where I use my laptop). I'm also trying to learn how to use ON - last quarter, I used MS Word for my notes. I tend to make a mess of things if I have to continually transfer files between the two and it would make life a LOT easier if I could place the files on one of my web sites and then just use that. Any ideas? How tough (and expensive) is it to set up a SharePoint server? Thanks. IMO, the biggest difficulty is not in setting up the server, but maintaining it afterwards. You'd need to ensure that it's always working, always connected to the internet, secure, etc. > Let me define what I'm trying to do a bit more - I've returned to school and > would like to make sure that I have that exact same files available whether > I'm at home (where I use my desktop) and at school (where I use my laptop). If all you need is somewhere to put your notes, google around for SharePoint hosting. There's a bunch of sites that'll give you a small amount of SharePoint space for personal use. You can then use their site to store your OneNote notes. Generally their most basic plan is more than sufficient for personal use, but you can always pay more to get more space or features. If you have a home network, you can also store the notes on your desktop and open the notebook from the laptop. The notes will sync whenever the two computers are on the same network and OneNote is running on the laptop. Ilya |

| Re: How do I save OneNote files to a web site so I can share my no Hi Ilya, I think I'll do that - I already maintain several sites but all of them run Unix. I have a home network but I've never opened it up and networking is, by far, the area I always have that most trouble with. Thanks for the suggestions. You do not need any server-based solution for that. ON's fantastic synching feature does all you need! > > I'm also trying to learn how to use ON - last quarter, I used MS > Word for my notes. I agree as far as Word and other standard software is concerned. Having been working with mobile computers for some twenty years I know the problem of keeping things on synch only too well. But there is no problem at all when working with ON. There you things are very easy as the developers did especially care for scenarios like yours. And therefore no server-based constructions is needed for working with a desktop at home and a laptop on the road. Way to go: Basics: - files are stored on only *one* computer (thereafter called "main computer); - the notebooks are opened on the other computer(s) "shared" from the "main computer. OneNote works from a Cache; - as long as the computers are connected (via WLAN or cable) all changes made on one side appear on the other device(s); - when the computers are disconnected, on the "client" one works with the cache; - once the computers are connected again, OneNote *automatically* synchs the notebooks on all participating computers. Ways easier than fumbling around with setting up things with a server. Rainald |

| Re: How do I save OneNote files to a web site so I can share my no Thanks for the responses. As I've researched this today, I discovered (actually alread knew the answer but checked anyway) with my hosting company and they do not support SharePoint. I also came across a couple of Microsoft sites that do allow people to place and store documents on the 'net - these are: 1. SkyDrive on Windows Live 2. Windows Live Workspaces These appear to be completely separate from each other (but it's not really clear as to why) and I can't determine if it is possible to use either SkyDrive or Windows Live Spaces with One Note. Does anyone know if this is possible? If so, how? Thanks. Read Rainauld's message again, very carefully. Especially from "Way to go:" onwards. SteveT |
