B would be fine, though I'm not sure why there couldn't be a 'make this
permanent' option. I like the suggestion about having different viewing
"configurations". I think that would be very useful, especially for people
transitioning from a paper notebook that just want to see all their notes in
chronological order again (and not a summary in the task pane).
