Hi, the company I work for currently has a shared notebook located in a
regular file share on a SBS server (not using sharepoint).

The appdata folder and my documents folders for each user is being
redirected to the users personal share on the SBS server, and is then made
available offline.

now most of the time onenote works find, except when our other users or
myself are out of the office, and someone moves a page to a different
section, sometimes when we plug back in and sync, we end up with 2 copies,
one in the original section and one in the section the other user moved it
to, now I would understand this if a change had been made to the same page
while the user was disconnected, but it doesn't seem to be the case.

I suspected it was an issue with Windows Vista (with SP1) trying to
syncronise the appdata folder as well as onenote having its own sync system,
so as a test I tried to move the onenote cache to a folder on the laptop that
is not available offline.

now when I go into onenote, it comes up with a message saying incorrect
password, unable to access/sync...

the notebook is not password protected, and it is viewable from the other
laptops, I tried putting the onenote cache back where it came from and
attempted systemrestore, but nothing is helping.

could someone please tell me how to fix this stupid mistake I've made..

Hi Anthony,

I don't recommend moving the App Data folder to a redirected network
location. OneNote extensively uses its cache which is stored here. Adding
the network latency will only compound read and write times to the cache, and
the added latency will only create problems. This comment applies to any
program which uses a cache, not just OneNote.

So first, I recommend restoring AppData to be local. Barring that, you can
change the OneNote cache to be local in Tools | Options | Save. Be careful
doing this, and ensure you are synced before you complete this operation.

Once you do that, test it out and see if you are still having problems. If
