Saving all contents

How do I save all the information that One Note contains? Were I to have to
save each list off each tab invdividually into individually created files,
then I might as well go back to saving as Word docs and forget about one
notes. I want to save as I see my screen page when one notes is open. All
of my organization depends upon seeing my whole set of notebooks wherever I
am and on whatever computer I use my flashdrives/portable hard drive.

I'm afraid I don't really understand your question. Let's dissect it a bit
and see if it gets us anywhere...

OneNote saves automatically on an almost real-time basis. If you mean that
you want to back up your OneNote files to a different location you can do
that with OneNote's automatic backup capability or by copying the folders or
..ONE files from your hard drive to any other media you like with Windows
Explorer.

I'm afraid I don't understand what any of this means. What lists would you
be individually saving and why? What do you want to save and what does "as
I see my screen page" mean? Does that mean you want to save immediately
when you open OneNote? Or does that mean you want to save what your "screen
page" looks like when OneNote opens?

What version of OneNote are you using? If you just locate your OneNote
notebooks on your flash or portable drive then you can transport them to any
other machine (that runs the same version of OneNote) and access them quite
easily.

Wordmonk says: I said "list" instead of "pages", my bad. After carefully
creating one notebook, with several tabs and several pages each, AND BEFORE I
COULD FIGURE OUT HOW TO SAVE THE WHOLE THING ONTO MY FLASH DRIVE, an event
happened which scattered all those pages into individual files in backup.
Apparently, my newly updated OneNotes, Version 12, got corrupted somehow.
Presently I am working at moving those pages into a new notebook.

(If you can help me get my big "button" back, I'd appreciate that, too. I'm
running Vista Home Premium and have Office Home/Student disk).

I may sound obtuse to you, but the Help Files and Demos (specifically
regarding the Save Command) are obtuse to a beginner OneNotes user who is not
UNfamilair with Microsoft Office products. I do not relate to the terms,
"sharing" and "sync". The descriptions sound like what advanced users
practice.

Onenote does not use the concept of save in the traditional sense. If
is constantly saving any changes you make in real time.

All information within a section is stored in the corresponding .one
file. When yoo create and rename pages they are written to the .one
file automatically. When you add text, graphics to a page they are
written to the .one file for you. You do not have to save periodically
as everything is saved in real time. You can use undo to reverse
recent changes. This applies to the creation of new sections and
section groups. Onenote will handle all changes made within the
notebook.

As you are using a flash drive Onenote will treat the notebook as a
shared notebook ("sharing"). When it does this, it uses a local cache
on one of your local hard drives (c:\ by default) to store a local
copy of the notebook with changes as you are editing them.
Periodically Onenote sync's the changes with the version on the flash
drive. (You can also force it to do this by clicking the synch button/
icon.)

If you rermove the flash drive, you can still make changes to the
notebook as Onenote will use the version in the cache. When you
eventually re-insert the flash drive Onenote will synch the changes
between the cache and the version on the flash drive.

I hope this helps to clear things up for you.

In summary, you don't have to worry about saving changes.

Warning: Make sure that the flash drive is always assigned the same
drive letter each time you insert it. There was a thread about this a
couple of days ago.

Thank you, John. Now I think by the end of the day I can get everything back
in order; have a major deadline Friday. The link you referenced is very
helpful, also. I am finding "pages" scattered throughout folders in "My
Docs", and have managed to move them to appropriate ON notebook/tabs.
